The Board of the Foundation

 

The Observatoire de la Finance is an internationally oriented foundation under Swiss law, supervised by the Federal Department of the Interior in Berne. The foundation is managed by a Board, which determines the Observatoire de la Finance’s general policy and draws up its budget.
Since 2001, a representative office operates in Warsaw (Poland).


Members of the Board

 

Ernesto Rossi di Montelera, Chairman

Ernesto Rossi di Montelera, whose background is in law, theology and philosophy, has held various positions within a family business group. In the field of his cultural interests, he has also been Chairman of the Centre Catholique d’Etudes in Geneva. Since he retired from business, Ernesto Rossi di Montelera has continued his activities supporting research into the field of social and economic ethics.

Jean-Loup Dherse, Vice-Chairman

Jean-Loup Dherse is the director of several companies and not-for-profit organisations. In addition, he is the former Chairman of the Caux Round Table. During his career, he worked for the French Government and then spent twenty years in private industry, including ten years as Executive Director of RTZ Corporation. He held the post of Vice-President (Energy and Industry) at the World Bank from 1983 to 1986, and was Managing Director of Eurotunnel until February 1988.

Yves Burrus

Having worked as a financial analyst then stockbroker for a major US firm, in 1972 Yves Burrus went on to found Banque Ormond Burrus, now known as Cantrade Ormond Burrus, and remained its Chairman until 1997. Shareholder and Chairman of Banque Macuard Cook since 1998, he is currently director of its successor, Anglo Irish Bank (Switzerland). Yves Burrus is also director of companies in Switzerland and elsewhere, and board member for various foundations active in different fields, notably ethics.

Andrew Hilton

A graduate of Oxford and Wharton and holder of a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, Andrew Hilton is director and cofounder of the London-based Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation, which was set up in 1993. The Centre analyses new international developments in the banking and financial services industry. He is also director of a group of economic consultants serving official clients in the Middle East. He has previously worked for the Financial Times in New York and the World Bank in Washington DC.

Paul-André Sanglard

Paul-André Sanglard is an economist. He started off as Treasurer of the new canton of Jura, then became a member of the World Economic Forum management team. Since 1989 he has been working as a companies administrator. In the financial sector, his posts include presidency of the Banque Cantonale du Jura and membership of the board of directors for the Banque Cantonale Vaudoise and the Vaudoise Assurances group.

Anthony Travis

Senior Partner of Cabinet Gainsbury & Consorts, Geneva, Anthony Travis was a former senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers SA in Geneva. He has worked extensively in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Former Chairman of the British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, he co-founded and served as board member of the Family Business Network, Lausanne (FBN), and co-founded and was board member of Le Reseau, Geneva. Anthony Travis is also the technical consultant on risk management issues to the Islamic Banking to the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), Kuala Lumpur.

Honorary Member: Maurice Cosandey

Professor Maurice Cosandey, whose training is in civil engineering, was involved in the preparatory work that led to the establishment of the Observatoire de la Finance. His career has mainly been spent in university teaching. Formerly a professor of structural engineering at EPUL (the Institute of Technology at the University of Lausanne), he was subsequently appointed its Director. When EPUL became the Lausanne Federal Institute of Technology, he was appointed Chairman. He has also served as Chairman of Switzerland’s Council of Federal Institutes of Technology.

The Observatoire de la Finance’s Director is Paul H. Dembinski.

Professor of International Strategy and Competition at Switzerland’s University of Fribourg, he is the co-founder and Director, together with Alain Schoenenberger, of the Geneva-based independent economic research institute Eco’Diagnostic.
