Mind the GAP
Groups, Attitudes,
and Perceptions
Differences and tensions diagnosis in the field of an organisation’s values and culture
An organisation is made by some more or less coherent groups of persons,
who could be themselves seen as relatively homogeneous. Today, in several
organisations – in particular the field of services – a larger
number of important people are in direct contact with clients and therefore
can commit the organisation’s responsibility. This situation is
a potential but also a risk. It is important for the managership to be
aware of the degree of unity within itself and inter-group.
Mind the GAP
is a diagnosis method, able to identify the differences and tensions in
the field of values and organisation’s culture. This diagnosis allows
organisations:
To know in which
way the system of reference, its content and its role is known by the
collaborators (groups)
To assess differences
on the way that existing corporate values are perceived by various groups
of people (general management, executives, teams, subsidiaries, project
groups) within the same company
To compare perceptions
and attitudes
To better identify
and reduce internal block or external crisis risks•To better identify
culture cooperation potentials
To prepare actions
in order to establish and develop a common system of reference
Mind the GAP
offers a number of key benefits:
It can be used
to compare the attitudes of different groups within the same company
It can be used
to highlight cultural differences between different locations
It is carried out
in total confidentiality, which should limit the risk of 'strategic' answers
It has to be repeated
every two years
Mind the GAP
diagnosis could concern the whole organisation or only one of its sectors.
The following steps could be undertaken, according to the organisation’s
size:
Preliminary analysis
and mandate’s definition
Interviews in order
to adjust the questionnaire, according to the organisation
Interviews with
the managership and exam of the internal and external organisation’s
documents
Questionnaire distribution
and analysis of the answers
Results’
presentation and interpretations recommendations
According to the organisation’s needs, a recommendations’ accompaniment could be put in place (coaching, seminars, etc.) and made the object of a new mandate.
